Poem written Essay Example For Students

Poem written Essay Base Details is a war poem written by Siegfried Sassoon in 1918. The year of 1918 was a crucial one in the First World War, and Base Details seeks to explore some of the bitterness and cruelty of the war era, expressed from the point of view of a common soldier.  The poem consists of a single stanza, with ten lines. The rhyme scheme is pretty straight forward and consistent, utilising a standard A,B,A,B format throughout the poem. The stylistic devices used are, however, quite distinct. Unlike many poems, metaphors dont seem to play a vital part in fact, the poem doesnt have a single metaphor. Instead, theres quite an excessive use of subjective adjectives, which greatly helps setting the tone and message of the poem. Most notable is perhaps how the author chooses to purposely understate serious issues, in order to suggest patriotic and sympathetic feelings for the reader. An example of such an understatement would be line 7 which says: Yes weve lost heavily in this last scrap.  Scrap in this context means battle. However, wed normally see scrap used in context with normal, unimportant fights, and even used as another term for junk or garbage. This implies that the major who articulates this line is obviously understating and fails to acknowledge the consequences, dramatic events, and horrors of the particular battle, thus making the reader feel disgusted about this major character. Another example of this would be adjectives such as guzzling, gulping, and toddle, which really explores the laissez-faire and immaterial attitude of the major character. Guzzling and gulping, depicts a rather obese, uniformed army official in midst of a greasy meal, which definitely doesnt imply any sympathy for this major character. Toddle excels at describing the laid-back and ignorant attitude of aforementioned character. This ironic tone consists throughout the entire poem. The author seizes the role of a major, and portrays this character as an upper-class, laissez-faire, and ignorant kind of person, who enjoys his managing office while neglecting and understating the sacrifices made by the youth on the battlefield. This irony easily leads to bitterness, and its quite easy to imagine that the authors experiences in the war might not have been amongst the easiest. (A quick research on Siegfried Sassoon shows that he suffered the loss of a dear brother and several horrific incidents as a Field Commander himself, which could point towards Base Details being his reaction and protest of his war-years.) Siegfried Sassoon achieves a great mix between telling an actual story with his poem, as well as portraying strong feelings. The story puts the recipients in midst of the war seen through a majors eyes as he runs through the Roll of Honour. This may not seem like a lot, but this actually creates quite a lot of connotations for the reader to digest along with the other literary devices. The feelings portrayed are, however, most prominent. A clear sense of bitterness, irony, regret, and anger towards the major character is strongly portrayed, and leaves the reader with a feeling of pity, shock and despair in form of great empathy. Compared to Rupert Brookes poem The Soldier, this approach is vastly different. In fact, The Soldier is quite the opposite, as it leaves the reader with a feeling of somewhat (national) pride and respect as these are the main feelings reflected by the narrator of The Soldier. The two poems together does, however, clearly shows the distinct characteristics of a two-faced war; on one hand, the soldiers are regarded as national heroes and saviours, but on the other hand, theyre also just another name on the Roll of Honour whod been used as a tool by their superiors.  The common soldier of WW1 was a loser as well as winner, and Base Details is definitely portraying the losing side, by getting a message of bitterness and regret through to the audience including the major characters for whom this poem is obviously aimed at as well.

Motherhood and High School Students an Example of the Topic School by

Motherhood and High School Students by Expert Prolific writer | 20 Dec 2016 Guidelines regarding teenage pregnancy and motherhood Introduction Need essay sample on "Motherhood and High School Students" topic? We will write a custom essay sample specifically for you Proceed Some schools have sought to punish teenage mothers in many ways to raise awareness on the pitfalls related to teenage pregnancy. Frightened of promoting policies or actions that back teen-age sexuality, schools have developed unclear guidelines regarding teenage pregnancy and motherhood. The toughened images of mothers as sexually careless have been commonly used, while other have simply judged them to likely become bad mothers who will join the row of non-productive American citizens. While it is understandable that the practice tries to free itself from the increase of young women becoming pregnant in the future, there is no acceptable way to explain the support of additional difference forced on the young pregnant mother. She is faced with additional unnecessary shame and unfair treatment from our ruthless and judgmental social system. This will likewise make it harder for her to drag her underdeveloped body to school and face another daily hurdle. Eventually, some would just quit school which accounts for the 62% of young women dropping out of school after giving birth according to Hrabowski (2002, p. 13). In this manner, our social system has actually fallen short of criticizing teenage pregnancy by questioning and stereotyping womens roles and is considered a negative impact on the lives of young mothers in high school. College Students Very Often Tell EssayLab professionals: Who wants to write essay for me? Specialists recommend: Help With Essay Writing. Here Is Your Life Vest! Many believed that the needs of teen-age mothers are similar to the needs of high-risk mothers. Health maintenance is a must as medical professionals offer advice to new mothers to take it slow after childbirth in order to allow the human system to slowly adapt to the bodily changes. Society has to this effect granted working mothers enough amount of rest through maternity leaves before and after delivery to recognize her right to health maintenance. In some societal structures however, the traditional views of motherhood are unwelcome in some areas of our educational system. Some schools impose a mandatory return to school policy right after giving birth to teen-age mothers. The subject of this study is therefore to the value of a few weeks rest for post-partum high school students. A few weeks rest The medical value of rest after childbirth is taught to the mothers of all ages by the health team for health reasons. A longer rest period is even afforded to those who have undergone Caesarean section birth process. Mothers who have undergone normal deliveries were also granted enough rest and time for bonding with their newborn. Medical theories support that insufficient rest is dangerous to young mothers because of negative childbirth complications, resulting to possible deaths according to Lutrell (p. 47). In the real meaning of medical consideration, a young mother is seen fit to enjoy ample amount of rest prior to return to school activities. Humanitarian considerations also understand that the young mother is entitled to spend a few moments of rearing for her newborn child. Right after birth, a teen-age mother is overwhelmed by many reasons to stay at home. Her body has been subjected to extensive demands brought about by the pregnancy and childbirth. Her emotional and psychological issues associated with the pregnancy and childbirth does not also disappear overnight. In many cases, her problems are enhanced with child-rearing capacities amidst other struggles. Newborn babies are also in need of maternal care and nurture. While the society has endorsed breastfeeding as a healthy program for babies and mothers, this activity requires more than a few days of rest. A few weeks after childbirth is therefore a crucial moment for mother and child as the mother needs to fully understand her situation and bond with her baby. Encouraging young mothers some time to rest right after childbirth prevents her from undue harassment while encouraging girls to continue their education in Lutrell (p. 19). It would be meaningless to require a new mother to immediately report to school without predicting the possibility of shaming her in front of other students. Breastfeeding mothers run the actual risk of discovery due to leaking breast milk. Other hormonal changes is also active during this period as new mothers of all ages experience blood flow that eventually lasts for more than two weeks on the average. Also, a time when her confidence is fragile teen-age mothers need an ample amount of support from her family and friends. The educational system with which she has been linked to can greatly assist in order for her to withstand the amount of responsibility hurled upon her. Expressing any need for her to continue her studies is a good thing in order to encourage her perception of available opportunities for her and her child. But a structure that keeps her away from balancing her responsibilities at home will affect her negative attitudes towards school. If the school is indeed bent on providing a safety net for the society, it should therefore realize that teen-age motherhood is a difficult condition requiring their support and understanding. Some schools have been lenient with teen-age pregnancy and have made it easier for the young expectant mothers to attend classes. Yet teenage mothers still find it difficult to adapt to a support system in school that allows her to manage their time between education and their new responsibilities. Although schools have claimed that a supportive atmosphere has been provided with interventions and cannot simply be inpidualized up to a point when the young girls can accept their dual roles, the system can still provide minimum extensions as needed in order to provide a supportive atmosphere (Baker, 2007: 205). New mothers are not simply bent on disregarding them such deliberately trying to be absent in the guise of motherhood. Though additional considerations may interfere with the methods of instruction, helping students finish their studies should be encouraged for them to reap educational benefits. Schools may also offer a student the option of getting a program that can accommodate home-bound instruction or transfer to another school with appropriate resources Lutrell (p.20). Conclusion My current stand on this study is still to require schools to adapt changes in its policies that would be medically beneficial and supportive to the plight of teenage mothers. Imposing a rule that require new mothers in high school to return to school immediately after childbirth is considered medically preposterous. Ample time shouldbe granted for teen-age mothers to re-adjust and get back their roles in the educational system while balancing their new roles at home. Education is a legal right for everyone and the school board should consider that which is beneficial to its students in order to encourage a viable society for all! Works Cited Baker, Phillip. Professionals Write My Essay I Prioritize My Time

Reviews matter when looking to have an essay writing service write my essay for me. The Quality of Essay Help is Crucial There are many reasons people seek to buy custom writings. Those times when a customer is in a rush to meet an immediate deadline are not uncommon, and this sort of rapid response to emergency situations is possible, however planning ahead to make use of a paper writing service offers a lot of advantages. The least of these is not that I can’t expect someone to write my essay cheap if I am ordering it at the last moment. I think that one of the most significant advantages is that I can spend time reading the reviews to make a decision about the online writing service and the individual writers who most consistently produce the best essays without trouble or complications. If I am going to pay someone to write my essay, I want to know that they are professional and have a track record of being able to research competently and return a genuinely custom written piece of work. Can Someone Write My Essay for Me? In this post, I want to speak personally with you about my experience trying to find a good essay writer, why and how I worked with and why reading feedback made a tremendous difference. As has been the case for many people, the first time I asked someone to write an essay for me I was prompted by an emergency situation. It was my first semester at university, and I completely forgot about one of my papers. I was busy working on two other papers, and I only realized I had a third due three days before the due date. Horrified, I asked some of my friends to help me, but it was no good. Also, it was embarrassing. One of my friends suggested that I pay someone to write my essay online. Beginner's Luck I didn’t have a lot of time to read reviews, but I was very lucky. I stumbled across and they had my assignment written quickly, and it was all so easy. The work was great, and I received a good result. I felt like I was out of the woods and I thought I might try a different service who promised to write my essay cheap in the following semester. This time I had started planning ahead and I had time to spare. I wrote down all of the assignments I would have to do for the study term together with their criteria and decided on which ones I would spend a lot of time on, which ones I would rush and which essays I would buy. The Best Writers aren’t Free Again, I did not read the reviews, but I saw that I could have someone write my essay for me cheap and I gave them a try. This time I was lucky in a different way. I had made my order early in the semester and asked for it to be completed a couple of weeks before the due date. The paper was a complete disaster. I copied a couple of the paragraphs and pasted them into Google and discovered that it was not custom written at all. It had been downloaded from a site which I could have used, and the plagiarism software on campus would have detected this very easily. I learned that trying to find someone to write my essay for me free online was a dangerous short-cut. You Know Your Best Friends When You’re in a Pinch I was fortunate that I had the security of knowing that Essay Service, whom I would pay to write my essay at the last minute again, would get the job done properly. On this occasion, I was pleased to learn that even the extra ten days I gave them to do their essay writing made a noticeable difference in price. Again as before, they returned a genuinely custom essay which had been produced just for me, also I was starting to learn the benefits of planning ahead when I use an agency to help me write my college essay. Setting Up an Ongoing System for Essay Help Find a paper writing service which is reliable and professional. Plan out your workload and make meaningful decisions about what to outsource. Order essays as soon as possible to keep the price down. Leave time to review the work yourself. Focus your efforts on the tasks you have left for yourself. Enjoy your academic experience. I didn’t get anyone to write essays for me in my second year, but then things changed my life significantly. I lost my income, and I had to work. I didn’t have the time which better-funded students had to spend on research and writing because I needed to work to survive. I had tuition, accommodation and living expenses for which I needed to take responsibility. To make things worse, the company I found work with needed me to work a lot. It was all or nothing, and so it turned out that while I needed to work, I couldn’t afford not to pay someone to take off some of the pressure; I needed someone to help me, but I needed it to be affordable. This is where the planning and experimentation I had done in my first and second study terms paid off. Furthermore, I took time at the beginning of the semester to read a lot of reviews and researched which were the best companies whom I could pay to write my essay. I discovered that there were a number of agencies who seemed professional and that there was a considerable difference in pricing and in the process, one needs to undergo in order to buy essays. It was certainly very meaningful for me that I had already had two satisfactory experiences with and I was not surprised to learn, from independent ‘write my essay’ reviews and from the reviews on their site, that others had found they could have confidence in them also. How Using this Essay Writing Service Worked for me. Of course, I can’t get access to the best writers if I expect someone to help me write my essay for free, but I found I could do a lot to get the most out of an ongoing relationship with one company and I could make it very affordable. At the beginning of each study term which followed I carefully laid out the academic workload as though it were a project and I managed the tasks accordingly. I focused on the tasks which I thought were most important, I rushed a couple, and I outsourced a couple to . This way I would give them plenty of time, and it allowed them to write my essay for me cheap. Unexpected Genuine Benefits to Buying Essays There were also some unexpected bonuses to this approach. My interactions with helped me to become a better student, a better writer, and helped me get more out of my course than I otherwise might have. Instead of barely crossing the T's and dotting the I’s while frantically trying to scrape through the criteria, I was able to comfortably engage with the course material and develop my research skills on the assignments I did myself. Also, because I shared work I had written myself with , a writer who would write my college essay for me had the opportunity to better custom their writing to match my style. Another benefit was that by reading through the papers the professional writers had produced for me, I was getting some great ideas about how to adapt my approach to satisfying the criteria and constructing my arguments. It was so encouraging to know that I was not alone under a seemingly insurmountable pile of due dates and criteria. A Professional Essay Service in Your Corner. Confidence in the teams to whom you outsource is crucial, and I have considered myself fortunate to have been able to work with through most of my academic experience. I found that when I planned ahead, I was able to have them write my essay for cheap. However, I was invariably surprised when the rapidly written emergency work, which came at a higher price, consistently came back just as good, especially so when it was produced by a writer who had worked for me previously. If you too need support to get the most out of your student life, I can recommend Essay Service with complete confidence. Sometimes it can make the world of difference if you know where you can go to get a consistent support that you can count on time after time. Also, I strongly suggest that you send them some of your writing so they can truly customize their writing to your own style.

Russian Revolution ( Grade level 10) essays

Russian Revolution ( Grade level 10) essays Modern day Russia is sitll torn by the remineants of the its past. Before the recent establishment of the Republic of Russia, the land was controled by Soviet rule. However the Soviets within themselves were also fairly young as a governement. The Beggining of communist rule started around 1917, but had it roots since the turn of the century. The Czars of Russia had grown corrupt and inefficiant. While the working peoples were starving, the Upper classes were enjoying themselves despite the collapsing economy and governement. Eventually it all broke through and the Czar and his family were slaughtered along with other leaders. Even after that, though there was a Civil War wich would determine who would rule Russia for the next century. The main influencer of the Revoltuion was a philospher names Carl Marx who wrote the Communist Manifesto. The Communist Menifesto stated how c government could be ran in an ideal way with no class systems, where all people are equal and work just as as hard as another does. Marx envisioned a system were work was equally distributed as was the fruits and the enitre community contributed to every persons needs and welfare, this system was known as communism. However, idealolgy is not reality, corrutption and the need for leadership would often cause the rise of communist and socialist governments to become starving police states with no freedom. Russia was possibly an acception to this common rule. An industrial revolution shortly after the explusion of the empirialist leaders helped to launch the newly founded and reformed nation into a world power almost over night. The origins of the revolution date far back to be recored but were not influential until the few years before it started. By 1914, Russia was economically backwards only just beginning to industrialize while the rest of the world was already well developed. The vast majority of Russia's population were peasants and the political sy...

Orientalism In Hollywood Movies Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Orientalism In Hollywood Movies - Movie Review Example Here the lead actor, Yule Brynner’s role, portrays Thailand’s legendary monarch, King Mongkut, who had opened the doors of his country, to welcome the entry of western influences during his reign in the 1860s. However, the movie, which is an adaptation of the book ‘Anna and the King of Siam’ by Margaret Landon, shows a lack of in-depth research work and limited knowledge on Thai history and culture, has a tendency to highlight dramatic considerations, and being too Eurocentric, fails to depict the country’s history authentically. This article will do a film review on â€Å"The King and me† and examine how ‘orientalism’ is represented in this movie. It will explore the notions of ‘orientalism’ as given by Edward Said, and will study the movie in this respect. It will also examine the post-war theory of modernization, which is very evidently represented in this movie. Postwar theory of modernization in the movie: King Mongkut, a renowned monarch of Thailand, has always been ‘an usually attractive subject to study’, and is generally considered to be ‘a pivotal one in Thai history’ (Wilson, 164). The movie is based on a romantic relationship that develops between Anna Leonowens and King Mongkut, and it depicts the issue of modernization quite clearly. It shows certain nuances of reality, by depicting the pros and cons of trying to adapt to a new culture, as the king opens the door for the western world to enter. The movie shows Anna Leonowens, a highly specialized English-American school teacher, who is hired by the king to teach the royal children western thoughts and etiquette. As she initially crosses sword with the king, the movie shows how Anna saves the country from the tyranny of the nonwestern ruler, by imbibing American modern values within him, thus ‘modernizing’ him in the process.

Descartes' Discourse on the Method (Part IV) Research Paper

Descartes' Discourse on the Method (Part IV) - Research Paper Example Descartes’ Discourse on the Method (Part 4) In part four of his Discourse method, Rene Descartes delves into finding out the metaphysical basis of knowledge or truth. Having resolved to doubt any belief that he had earlier on held, and to subject all his earlier beliefs into critical evaluation through his discourse method, Descartes had to find a rational basis of knowledge that would serve as the foundation for his system of Philosophy. Descartes sought to break from the past after realising that he could doubt everything that he had earlier on held as the truth, he therefore, realised that all the theories of truth or of knowledge that his predecessors had given were insufficient and false. Descartes, therefore, started doubting everything including his own existence. But in the course of proving his own existence, Descartes ended up with a surprising argument proving God’s existence. This paper analysis and evaluates Descartes discourse method in part four and focus es on how Descartes deviated from proving his own existence as the basis of all knowledge to prove the existence of God as the source of truth. ... le he can doubt everything, he cannot, however, doubt his own existence because the doubting of his own existence requires him first to exist so as to be able to doubt. Consequently, one has to be so as to doubt, and with this realisation, Descartes found an indubitable basis of truth that would serve as the basis of his epistemology. Following this realisation he proclaimed, ‘’I think, therefore I am’’ (Descartes, Discourse on the Method, Part Four, online). This means that his very doubting self is the proof of his existence. Descartes, therefore, conceived himself as a thinking self because his thinking or doubting nature is the only thing that he could not doubt. But proving his own existence wasn’t the end of his journey in finding out the metaphysical foundation of knowledge. This is because after proving the truth of his own existence, he had now to proceed to prove the truth of other things external to him. Having proved his own existence as an indisputable truth, Descartes sought to know what makes propositions true. Since some propositions are true, like the one that he had already proved about his own existence, there must be something universal in such propositions that make them true. And reflecting on the proposition that he had already proved as indubitable truth, Descartes realised that the only assurance that he had of the truth of the proposition, I think, therefore I am, is that he could clearly and distinctly see that in order to think, he had to exist first. Descartes, therefore, took it as a general rule, that whatever is conceived clearly and distinctly must be true (Descartes, Discourse on the Method, Part four, online). But the problem in applying his general rule lay in recognizing the things that could be conceived clearly and

Relationship Issue on Facebook Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Relationship Issue on Facebook - Research Paper Example Communication in relationships used to be based on letters and phone calls, and face-to-face interaction was more common, one could only meet new people face to face or by introduction, say by a mutual friend. Over the last few years, the dynamics of relationships and interactions has paradigmatically changed since thanks to modern technology, one does not even have to leave their house or home to communicate or interact with someone. This social interaction has been enhanced and dominated by social networking sites, the leading ones being Facebook and twitter (Ayodele 2). People, especially the youth, have taken to social networks not only to communicate with their friends, but as make new ones. Many love relationships have also been formed and flourished online on these social networks; indeed, there are those who join Facebook with the sole intention of dating and finding love. While many of these relationships become successful, there are many more which end up in heartbreak and sometimes even tragically because even criminals and stalkers use the internet to lure their victims. Therefore, it is imperative that we consider several questions, such as if Facebook poses a threat to the security of already existing relationships. What motivates people to look for love in Facebook? Can Facebook be considered a realistic and practical way of starting and building relationships? This essay will focus on the last question; it shall discuss, argue and contest the appropriateness of Facebook as a facilitator for relationships by examining the issues that surround Facebook relationships. There are several issues that make Facebook a shaky setting for developing and growing relationships, one of this is the effect Facebook has on pre-existing relationships. Consider that two people are in a relationship and both happen to be friends on Facebook. One of them may join a group or make friends with a member of the opposite sex who might send suggestive messages or gifts to them. Bearing in mind that the line between innocent flirting and cheating might mean different things to different partners, a post on someone’s timeline may cause friction and result in the termination of a relationship (Ilana 878). In another situation, when couples that are friends on Facebook have a falling out or disagreement, one of them may update something about it on their page, and this can cause their partner to feel humiliated. Moreover, youths often use media and technology to promote sexual behavior through highly sexually suggestive messages and sometimes picture in what has been dubbed sexting (Pascoe 6). Facebook easily offers an avenue for this: when people are online, they are able to hide their shyness and will be bolder. This will encourage behavior such as flirting, which easily becomes serious and in some cases turns into full-blown sexting where people send each other suggestive or even nude pictures as well as explicit Messages. If people meet onlin e, they are likely to engage in such activity because lack of direct contact emboldens them; unfortunately, this makes deceit a common future in Facebook relationships (Ayodele 8). In case such an association was to develop in to relationship, two people may move from being friends to being on sexting terms before they have even met in person. Therefore, should they meet, they are likely to engage in sexual activity without knowing much about each other ergo risking contacting sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, AIDS, herpes and others. Facebook has been accused of spoiling relationships, especially long distance ones. This is because while Facebook offers an avenue
