Success and Effectiveness In just the eleven years since Facebook’s launch, Mark Zuckerberg has become one of the most successful and influential people in the world. The social network started as a side project that Zuckerberg would work on in his dormitory room. Now, Facebook is more than merely a social network; it is a publicly traded technology powerhouse that has changed the way people around the globe communicates, and the company continues to innovate and expand their horizons. A world without Facebook is hard to fathom, and it doesn’t seem like they are going to be disappearing anytime soon. Zuckerberg is just 30 years old with a net worth of $32.9 billion, making him the second youngest self made billionaire in the world.†¦show more content†¦In 2009, Vanity Fair ranked Zuckerberg as 23rd on their Top 100 â€Å"Most Influential People of the Information Age†. The following year, he received the top spot, and was also sixteenth in New Statement’s survey of t he world’s 50 most influential figures. In 2010, Zuckerberg was also named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, and has been a part of the piece for the past five years, recognizing him as one of the 100 wealthiest and influential people in the world. The film The Social Network came out to depict the story of Facebook’s origins and gave more insight about who Mark Zuckerberg was. The Jerusalem Post named him the most influential Jew in the world in both 2011 and 2013. Facebook Achievements Perhaps one of the most telltale indicators of the power and influence Facebook would eventually have over the world was in 2006, when a company, Student Monitor, conducted a survey on college students. According to the survey, Facebook was tied with beer as the second most popular thing among undergraduates, only behind the iPod. Since 2008 when they dethroned Myspace, Facebook has been the leading social networking site based on monthly unique visitors. However, the social network had been getting recognition even before such an exciting feat. PC Magazine put Facebook in their 2007 â€Å"Top 100 Classic Websites†. They also won the Weebly’s â€Å"People’s Voice Award† in 2008. Each year from 2008-2010, the company won Crunchie’s â€Å"Best Overall Startup or Product†.
