Teachers evaluation of Interactive Whiteboards technology in Second Dissertation
Teachers evaluation of Interactive Whiteboards technology in Second Language Classroom - Dissertation Example In terms of preference, the standard deviation was only 1.01 which again is very close to the mean showing that most of the student preferred the use of IWB. All these observations show that the students are quite receptive to the use of IWB. However, in terms of usability and effectiveness of IWB in learning, the SD on the number of the student who were of the view that IWB is not always successful in bring about effective learning was .825 which is higher. This implies that although it has been seen to facilitate learning and a good motivation, there is need to review it further in order to increase its success. Teachersââ¬â¢ Responses to the Questionnaire Items Instructional Effect of IWB statement mean SD Q1, IWB helps me to manage Instructional time effectively 90%instructional time Effectively 3.10 .718 Q2, I think the lessons become more effective with IWB 3.20 .696 Q3,IWB facilitates the classroom management for me 92 8 Q4, IWB helps my lessons be more interactive 3.05 .68 6 Q5, IWB facilitates discussions on the content in class 2.95 .686 Q6, There is no time for my students to get around to using an IWB* 2.75 .639 Q7, IWB provides advantages to me to make course content more visual 3.25 .716 Q8, The way I give instruction has been changed since I began to use an IWB 2.95 .759 Q9, IWB helps me to use the computer and projector more effectively than before 3.30 .733 Motivational Effect of IWB Statement Mean SD Q15, I enjoy teaching with an IWB prepared for instruction 3.05 .887 Q16, Because of using an IWB, I feel myself more prepared for instruction 2.75 .851 Q17, I notice my IWB skills are improving day by day 2.85 .813 Q18, Learning how to use an IWB is essential to me 3.15 .813 Q17, IWB makes my courses more enjoyable to the students 3.05 .759... The study involved an observation of the interactions between the teachers and the learners in a lesson where the IWB were utilized. The utilizing of the board by students who were of a younger age was seen to be important in their enjoyment of the lesson. For instance, a class was observed while the teacher was using the smart board for game activity. Some students were exited to interact while others didnââ¬â¢t show any interest. It was observed that students who had not used the device previously were easily distracted from the main content that the teachers taught. However, students who had been instructed using the IWB more than one were observed to learn more from the interactive lesson. All in all, teachers were using the interactive white board in almost all kind of courses, levels and skills. When observing the use of the IWB in the classroom, it was observed that this technology can be used in the teaching/ learning in various ways. It provided multimedia learning that i s conducted through activities such as manipulation of images and texts, note making in digital ink, group viewing of websites and saving notes that can be retrieved via website, print or email. It can also be used to illustrate the use of certain software without having to move to the individual learner.

The Security Requirements And Challenges Of Manets Information Technology Essay
The Security Requirements And Challenges Of Manets Information Technology Essay The major security requirements of MANETs are secure linking, secure routing and secure data transmission or secure data packet forwarding. Both proactive and reactive approaches are needed. The disadvantages of the mobile design, like: limited cpu, memory and battery, may let MANETs face more security chanllegnes, which include both active and passive attacks, the problems of dynamic topology, routing protocol and mobile environment, specially the packets missing, data changed and node failures will make users lose trust of it, most of the secure routing protocols are designed with certain known attacks in mind. When an unknown attack is encountered, these protocols may collapse, but achieving higher security usually requires more computation on each mobile node. 2. Explain à ¿Ã ½-TESLA and compare it with TESLA? TESLA means Time Efficient Stream Loss-tolerant Authentication, à ¿Ã ½-TESLA is a micro version of TESLA, or we can consider it as an adoption of TESLA for WSNs. Althugh TESLA and à ¿Ã ½-TESLA are multicast stream authenticaiton protocols, both have different ways in key discloure and authentication. à ¿Ã ½-TESLA is used in authentication of message broadcasts from Base Station(BS), from nodes (through BS), and also to authenticate route update broadcasts. BS works as the key distribution center. ( Taken From Chapter 3, Course slides.) This means à ¿Ã ½-TESLA allows the receivers broadcast authenticated data due to node to node key agreement. Receiver do not share a key with other receivers. But TESLA sender uses digital signature for the intial packet authenticaiton and broadcasts it over the whole WSN, the receiver knows the key disclosing schedule, when the key is disclosed, receiver will check its correctness and authenticates the buffered packets. 3. Gather information about the key Management protocols in MANETs. And explain it briefly. In MANETs, Key management is actually considered as the base for every cryptographic system, its a combination of cryptographic algorithms and on-demand dynamic routing protocols, because the networking security in many cases dependent on proper key management, the tranditional centralized approach in key management does not work out here, therefore, several methods are usually applied in the key management system in MANETs, such as: Secret Sharing Methods, Distributed CA Method, Error-code based methods and Byzantine Resilient Method. Even so, KM system still faces the many Challenges like: Dynamic topology and environment, Lack of trust, Node failures, Bounded computational and operational power, Connectivity problems and Node autonomity, etc because you dont know if any one entity is dishonest, that entity may be exposed. 4. Explain SEAD, SAR and SPAAR routing protocols in more details. SEAD is a secure table- driven routing protocol based on the existing DSDV(Destination-Sequenced Distance-Vector) routing protocol. It uses a one-way-hash function and asymmetric cryptography operations. Although SEAD defends against several types of DoS ( Denial-of-Service attacks), it cannot prevent the wormhole attack. To avoid long time running routing loops and to defend against the replay attack, SEAD uses destination numbers to to ensure that the information originates from the correct node. Authentication is also used in SEAD. Each node uses a specific authentic element from its one-way hash chain in each routing update that it sends about itself. The source must be authenticated using some kind of broadcast authentication mechanism, such as: TESLA. Apart from the hash functions used, SEAD doesnt use average settling time for sending triggered updates. This disadvantage makes SEAD face the chanellege of clock synchronization in order to function properly. SAR stands for Security-Aware Ad Hoc Routing, which applied for on-demand secure routing protocols. When a packet is sent, it need be assigned a trust value and certain security attributes, like: time stamp, sequence number, authentication, integrity, SAR introduces a negociable metrics to discover secure routes that are embedded into RREQ packets. And this packet can be processed or forwarded only if the node can provide the required security. The problem of SAR is you dont know whether or not the value assigned is true and the invisible node attack can not detected and treated in SAR. SPAAR (Secure Position Aided Ad hoc Routing) is a position based system and uses the location information to increase the security and performance. All nodes in SPAAR are required to know their own locations, for eaxmple, GPS system tells you where you are. SPAAR is also designed to provide authentication, non-repudiation, confidentiality and integrity for the security environment. 5. Explain Secure Message Transmission Protocol ( SMT) in MANETs. The major job of SMT (Secure Message Transmission) protocol is to secure the data transmission or data forwarding on already discovered routes no matter whether or not these routes have malicious nodes. SMT protocol does not deal with route discovery. It only demands a secure relationship between the source and destination by allowing one node know the public key of the other node. No cryptographic operation is needed between the nodes because the communication is usually done over the node disjoint paths, every piece of message is authenticated and verified through a Message Authentication Code. The destination doesnà ¿Ã ½t need all the pieces of a message to understand it. It can reconstruct the message when enough pieces have been received. This implies that even if there are malicious nodes in a few paths that drop the message or if there are unavailable routes, the message can still be received. If the destination didnà ¿Ã ½t receive enough pieces to construct the message, the source will send out the remaining pieces over a different set of paths. Otherwise the source continues with the next message transmission. 6. Give numberical examples for EL Gamal-TC (4,6) and RSA-TC(4,6). An investigate whether Elliptic Curve Crypto(ECC) could be used for TC? Elliptic Curve Crypto(ECC) could be used for TC, I got this idea from the article ECC Based Threshold Cryptography for Secure Data Forwarding and Secure Key Exchange in MANET written by Levent Ertaul and Weimin Lu, 2005, The two authors say in this way: We combine Elliptic Curve Cryptography and Threshold Cryptosystem to securely deliver messages in n shares. As long as the destination receives at least k shares, it can recover the original message. We explore seven ECC mechanisms, El-Gamal, Massey-Omura, Diffie-Hellman, Menezes-Vanstone, Koyama-Maurer -Okamoto-Vanstone, Ertaul, and Demytko. For secure data forwarding, we consider both splitting plaintext before encryption, and splitting ciphertext after encryption. Also we suggest to exchange keys between a pair of mobile nodes using Elliptic Curve Cryptography Diffie-Hellman. We did performance comparison of ECC and RSA to show ECC is more efficient than RSA. 7. Hacking technique and counter Measures Please find the usage and the required counter measures to avoid effects of the below commands. This commands fall into a catergory called Discovering Wireless Networks. a. INSSIDER Actually inSSIDer is a replacement for NetStumbler, it is a free Wi-Fi network scanner for Windows Vista and windows XP, it can inspect your WLAN and surrounding networks to troubleshoot competing access points, it works with internal Wi-Fi radio, Wi-Fi network information, such as: SSID, MAC, Access point vendor, data rate, signal strength, security, etc. Graph signal strength over time, is also can show how Wifi networks overlap and provides an open source code service since the Apache License, Version 2.0, it also can support GPS and export to Netstumbler(*.ns1) files, because of the open source service, the intruders may take advantages of it to attack your personal information. The best way to avoid inssider command is to give it no permission to access WLAN. I consider IEEE802.1x and IEEE802.11i protocols should be applied, and the specific mechanisms, like: WEP, TKIP, CCMP, MIC, Counter-MOde-CBC-MAC Mode, WPA and WPA2 should be got involved. b. Visit following web site: http://renderlab.net/projects/WPA-tables And give me the brief desription of this site. After visiting this website, a Church of Wifi WPA-PSK Rainbow Tables displays, this page is to give a little more insight into the methodology and logic behind concieving and building the CoWF WPA-PSK Rainbow Tables, actually they are lookup tables. From my point of view, this website tries to show you the result of the project that is done at renderlab, this project is testing how much possibilities the password will be cracked. On WPA-tables, WPA-PSK was vulnerable to brute force attack, cryptographists use the tools like Aircrack and coWPAtty to take advantage of this weakness and provided a way to test keys against dictionaries. They found that in fact the cracking process is very slow . Each passphrase is hashed 4096 times with SHA-1 and 256 bits of the output is the resulting hash. This is then compared to the hash generated in the initial key exchange. A lot of computing power is required for this. If the SSID and the SSID length is seeded into the passphrase hash, the passphrase of password will be hashed differently on a network with the SSID of linksys than it will on a network with the SSID of default. For the War driving, attacking a series of access points to connect to a server behind it, each ones security was stronger than the previous. They also found the application of the Time-Memory trade-off is particularly useful in password cracking and cryptography. How to prevent it from attack? They think its impossible to create a lookup table for all possible keys. Because the seeding of the algorithm with the SSID and SSID length, they have to compute all possible keys against all possible SSIDs, the limlited storage space doesnt allow them to do calculation. Instead they quickly check WPA-PSK networks against known english words and known passwords quickly, while still leaving the option open for brute forcing the rest of the keyspace. Selecting the most effecient dictionary and SSIDs computed became the focus.Size was also a concern. Even if they want to break the password, they still do not want the key size beyond the storage capacity of most users. They list some common passwords from Websters dictionary and compute them by sorting all passphrases in the range 8 bits and 64 bits, both max and min passphrases are taken off. The result shows 52% of SSID are at Wigle database of 5 million access points and on the top 1000 lists. This means at least 2.7 million access points are known. This renderlab project found a way to speed up WPA-PSK cracking, but it does not mean that it has been broken. Those experts also use coWPAtty and other similar tools to test the other dumb passphrases. The test result shows the minimum number of characters for a WPA-PSK passphrase is 8 and the maximum is 63. In reality, very few users actually use more than about 20 characters, in most cases, people choose known words and phrases, likely to be in a dictionary. So, to get decent protection from WPA-PSK, you should use a very long, very random, alphanumeric string longer than 20 characters, or to protect yourself further, particularly against the WPA-PSK hashtables, you should use a SSID not on the top 1000 list because this will force the attacker to compute thier own list, rather than use one of the CoWF tables.

Terrorism: Paranoia and the Internet Essay -- Terror Terrorists Web Cy
Terrorism: Paranoia and the Internet My third edition American Heritage dictionary defines paranoia as "a psychotic disorder characterized by delusions of persecution or grandeur." Having looked that up, I'm not sure paranoia is the right label for what I'm about to write about; or at least, it is not the only label. I think, specifically regarding terrorism (by maybe more generally as well), the idea of paranoia blurs and blends at its boundaries between propaganda ("the systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause") and dogma ("a corpus of doctrines set forth by a religion" or "an authoritative principle or belief, esp. one considered to be absolutely true") and sensationalism ("the use of lurid or exaggerated matter, esp. in writing, journalism, or politics"). Differentiating amongst these is more difficult than I would have imagined before I began reading and researching on the Internet. The first Internet text I would like to consider comes from the Christian Broadcasting Network's website (www.cbn.com). It is the text of a press release: "Pat Robertson's Statement Regarding Terrorist Attack." Pat Robertson explains the reason for the horrific events of September 11th. our nation's great cities and innocent people were attacked, according to Robertson, because God has "lift[ed] His protection from us." Why? Robertson answers by condemning America's capitalist economy, condemning America's foundation in the rights to free speech and expression, condemning those Americans who support a woman's right to choose, and condemning the American government's enforcement of the separation of church and state. To me, Robertson's ideas, further exemplified in the following excerpts, seem dogmatic and sensationalist: "All over ... ...Government, and how to organize violent militia groups. The question facing us, as an open society, is how to respond to the most controversial and extreme uses of this new technology, this electronic, global Gutenberg printing press that turns all citizens into publishers who can reach thousands and even millions of people around the country and the world." I think the notion that fear is the goal of terrorists is of central importance to this issue. Terrorists want, strive, aim to incite terror. They want fear, anxiousness, and paranoia to fester amongst their targets. So, maybe it is the case that media and Internet abet this sense of paranoia; but in any case, it is the goal of the terrorists. And in a terrifyingly successful terrorist attack like that of September 11th, it makes sense that the nation would be left in a state of shock, terror, and paranoia.

My Definition of Nursing :: Definition Nursing Medicine Narrative Essays
I realized I wanted to be a nurse after I had my 2nd ACL surgery, my senior year of high school. I had to stay in the hospital 3 days in order to recover, and I was very lucky to have such a wonderful and caring nurse. She made me feel as if I was her only patient. I will never forget how well I was taken care of and how comfortable she made me feel. I was young and scared, but she was reassuring, because she made me feel as if I had my own mother taking care of me. She was the reason I wanted to become a nurse, because I wanted to make others feel the way she made me feel. My personal definition of nursing is encompassed within that one nurse. A nurse should be loving, compassionate, dependable, competent, empathic, responsible, joyful and comforting (just to name a few). A nurse not only cares for the physical aspect of the patient but the mind and spirit as well. I believe a nurse should promote physical and emotional well-being. Nursing is more than just administering medications and performing different procedures; it is being with people, talking and visiting with them. I believe it is very beneficial to the patient to be treated as a human being rather than just ââ¬Å"another patientâ⬠. It allows the patient to feel that the nurse truly cares about their well-being, and I believe that makes a difference in the patientââ¬â¢s recovery. When people have to be in the hospital or nursing home, they tend to feel very vulnerable and may sometimes feel ashamed or embarrassed. Some may not have any family or friends to visit them during their stay; this is the time for the nurse to be reassuring and make them feel comfortable. I believe that making a patient feel as comfortable as possible is one of the most important aspects of nursing care. I think it makes a tremendous difference when nurses act joyful and happy around the patient. A patient notices when a nurse is having a bad day or is unhappy, and most patients do not want someone taking care of them that does not bring joy into the room. It is reassuring to the patient to know that the nurse enjoys caring for them. I believe nurses also need to show competency and confidence. It makes the patient feel at ease and relaxed to know that the nurse knows what to do.

Lowering the Drinking Age to Eighteen Essays -- essays research papers
In 1984 Transportation Secretary Elizabeth Dole lobbied for all states to raise the legal drinking age from eighteen to twenty-one. The consequence for a state not raising the age was to lose a portion of their federal highway funding. I personally believe that the drinking age being twenty-one is just like when the voting age was twenty-one, if I can go to war and die for my country, then I should be able to go to the bar and buy a beer. à à à à à One of the biggest problems in our society is under age drinking. They tell us how we arenââ¬â¢t allowed to drink, that we arenââ¬â¢t old enough or mature enough to do it, but the more adults talk about it, the more teenagers want to do it. When a kid goes off to college, itââ¬â¢s expected that he is going to drink. Since most kids donââ¬â¢t know what a hangover feels like, or what itââ¬â¢s like to get the spins, they donââ¬â¢t know their limits and when they need to stop. That is when you get people doing stupid things because they donââ¬â¢t know any better. The most important thing for a young drinker to know is his or her limit. Any eighteen year old can drink responsibly if they have a little bit of experience. Unfortunately most parents donââ¬â¢t want their kids to drink, so we have to learn the hard way without anyone there to tell us to slow down or to stop. For some kids that means getting sick one night and realizing that they shou ldnââ¬â¢t drink that much next time, but for some others the idea just never hits them, and they drink too much and that is when the trouble starts. Last Saturday night a friend of mine drank too much while she was out camping. She started to pass out and was puking all over herself. The more experienced kids in the group realized that she was in trouble and they rushed her back to campus where we were able to get her cleaned off and taken care of for the night. à à à à à Many people argue that when the drinking age was raised to twenty-one, that alcohol related deaths among people under twenty-one dropped from 43% to 21%. What they donââ¬â¢t tell you is that alcohol related deaths among people between the ages of twenty-one and twenty-five went up almost as much as the other group went down. Experience is the biggest tool in fighting the problems with underage drinking. The kid who goes to college without ever having gotten drunk is going to go all out at his or her first par... ...er curfews or can stay at a friendââ¬â¢s house. This next piece of information is based on my personal opinion and experiences. For a high school student, alcohol is very hard to get. Some kids get lucky and have older siblings or friends who will buy it for them. For almost everyone else at that age, alcohol is not a big part of their everyday life, and they turn to a much easier to get substance. Marijuana is one of the most commonly used drugs by high school students. It is a lot easier to get than alcohol, and for most kids it doesnââ¬â¢t seem as dangerous. You donââ¬â¢t wake up with a hangover, and you arenââ¬â¢t as impaired as you are when you are drunk. Most kids will drive when they are high and not even think twice about it. There are many reasons why the drinking age should be lowered to eighteen, and there are many reasons why it should stay twenty-one. There is proof that both sides of the argument work. In other countries without a drinking age or with a lowered one, you donââ¬â¢t hear about as many drunk driving accidents as you do in the United States. Maybe the drinking in the U.S. is just like the violence, as Michael Moore put it, whatââ¬â¢s so different about us that makes it happen?

Business Ethics Essay
This paper will focus on Benji Watson, a graduate from the Liberty University MBA program and his recruitment by a corporation that sells various vitamins, health foods and health supplements; New Gen Health Sciences. The case study that was presented provides us certain information that Benji has either gotten from his recruiter or from his own personal research. After a weekend of being at the company introduction event, Benji is presented with a dilemma as to whether to accept the lucrative offer New Gen has presented him. Throughout this paper I will take a closer look as to whether I believe Benji should or should not accept his contract offer from New Gen. Integrity One of the most important factors when looking into joining a corporation is to take a look from the top and see how the CEO runs his corporation. Benji has already had several red flags raised as to the business practices that the CEO of New Gen employs throughout his corporation. Mary C. Daly (2003) describes how a Harvard Business School case study quoted an Enron official who gave a description of Jeffrey Skillingââ¬â¢s decision-making process as follows: ââ¬Å"It was all about creating an atmosphere of deliberately breaking the rulesâ⬠(p. 269-270). She goes on to say that in a similar situation, Salomon Brothers encouraged extreme risk taking in the pursuit of profits that sometimes were not within the ethics or morals of the individual (p. 270). A severe lack of integrity within these corporations ultimately led to their demise. Unfortunately, it seems as if the CEO of New Gen is headed down this same path in his pursuit of profits. The CEO of New Gen claims to be a person who cares about people and making their lives better, yet he displays a total lack of integrity when he referred to the companyââ¬â¢s customers as ââ¬Å"fat, lazy, lethargic Americans.â⬠Benji needs to ask himself, is this the type of boss I want to work for? To make matters worse and to once again bring the CEOââ¬â¢s integrity into question, he harshly asked another potential employee whose infant child was crying to leave the room as to not bother the others who were in the room. I would caution Benji to take into consideration these actions when he makes his decision. Julia Sferlazzo (2012) describes two types of business ethics theories and the debate that focuses on whose interestââ¬â¢s managers should consider when they are making decisions (p. 772). The two theories, shareholder and stakeholder theories respectively, both take a different approach in how they go about implementing their business ethics. The shareholders theory basically involves when the only duty of the manager is to pursue profit and that the only obligations they have are to act within the confines of the law. This theory was favored in the early 1900ââ¬â¢s but over the past several decades this theory has fallen out of favor in terms of government regulation due to the corruption and corporate greed. In the stakeholders theory, a balance is placed on what is in the best interest of the shareholder, employees, the community, and as society. This theory of professional ethics is accepted the most amongst academics (Sferlazzo, 2012, p.772-773). Based on the theories I have outlined above, I believe that New Gen more closely falls in line with the shareholder theory, and one that could lead down the path of corruption. Although New Gen is not ethically doing anything illegal, they are falsely marketing their company as a leader in ethics when in reality they are only in pursuit of the maximum amount of profit. ââ¬Å"For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But though, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meeknessâ⬠(Timothy 6:10-11, NIV). Strategic Ethics vs. Real Ethics In Dobsonââ¬â¢s (n.d.) critique, he states several times that although a businessââ¬â¢ actions may appear moral, it is clear that the motivation can sometimes only be material. This question is are these companies only saying they are running an ethical business as motivation to attract investors or are they taking action on what they are saying by their real ethics they are imploring. When Benji was conversing with his recruiter about New Genââ¬â¢s industry leading ethics code, the recruiter basically told him that it was a strategy that the company had to say in order to ensureà government regulations were met and they could entice investors. This should be a red flag for Benji that this company may be employing a strategic ethic instead of real ethics in order to attract new investors rather than doing the right thing. These dishonest business practices along with not being able to adhere to real ethics and using them only to their strategic advantage will eventually ca tch up to this company and its financials will struggle if these practices continue. ââ¬Å"Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheepââ¬â¢s clothing but inwardly are ravaging wolvesâ⬠(Matthew 7:15, NIV). Benji would be wise to heed the advice that Jesus gave to Matthew when advising him on how to enter the kingdom of heaven. Spiritually, Benji has to make a conscience effort to continue to research and investigate on whether this is a wise decision for him to accept a job from a potential dishonest corporation. Is New Gen a corporation that values its consumers and employers both ethically and spiritually or are they a corporation that only uses their ââ¬Å"industry leading ethics codeâ⬠as a strategic ploy to attract their investors? These are the questions Benji must consider when deciding on accepting this contract offer. The Decision From both a spiritual and an ethical perspective there is no way that I would advise Benji to accept this job offer. Although this job appears lucrative from the outside looking in, upon further research Benji should realize that this companyââ¬â¢s foundation is based upon furthering the profit for the CEO and not taking into consideration of the stakeholders. Furthermore, New Gen is a company that is dishonest and shows a total disregard to the integrity that a reputable business would display. In no way would I advise Benji to accept this job offer.
